My lab-based research focusses on the changes in the brain that underlie attention deficit disorder and how particular drug treatments might affect the brain, for example I am investigating what brain structures might be affected by Ritalin as it works to decrease distractibility. Outside of the lab I am involved in education research and in particular investigating the impact of knowledge of the brain and its malleability on motivation to learn and academic achievement in year 7 pupils.

I take part in a number of outreach events, normally in schools. These range from simple careers talks, to hands-on sessions with real human brain samples, and can last for 1 lesson or over a longer period.
